Welcome to a new school year! I look forward to working with you and your child. Your participation and support are very important to your child's school experience. Our classroom is always open for you to visit, just be sure to check in at the office first. First Grade is a big step up from kindergarten. They will learn many new things as well as build on the skills from last year. I want your child to look forward to each school day. It will be an environment in which they will feel safe and that it's OK to make a mistake. Learning will be FUN!
I live in La Center with my husband and very active Border Collie, Strider. I have two grown children and one seven year old grandson. My children graduated from LaCenter High School. I love living and teaching in La Center. We have a wonderful community with awesome families! I guess that's why I am still here after 43 years. I enjoy riding my bike, swimming, kayaking, skiing, sailing and reading.
SNACK: Please have your child bring an individual snack each day. VOLUNTEERS: I will need parents who are interested in volunteering once a week. If you cannot commit on a weekly basis, come when you can. Contact me if you are interested. SUPER KID: Each week or so a different child will be in the "super kid" corner. That child will be able to bring family pictures and treasures. I will send home a page for you to complete with your child. Then bring it back to school with some family pictures. Their classmates will make a special book for your child to take home. BIRTHDAYS: If you are interested in bringing a treat for your child on his/her birthday, please contact me in advance. The children enjoy the special attention. BOOK CLUBS: I will be sending Scholastic Book Club orders throughout the year. If you are interested in ordering please send a check payable to Scholastic Book Club with the order form by the due date. You can also order on line. WEEKLY REPORTS: I will be sending home weekly progress reports to let you know how your child is doing each week. You will also get a weekly newsletter letting you know what we did during the week. HOMEWORK: I will send spelling/reading homework on Monday and math homework on Thursday. There is no deadline. Do it when you can. The children will get credit for bringing it back.
